Coco's Island was declared National Park on june 22 of 1978 and on december 04 of 1997,the UNESCO declared the island as a Natural Heritage for the Mankind; also in may of 1998 was declared as an Important, International Wetland.

There is also a marine variety: manta rays, dolphins, corals, 27 species of sharks; where the most importants are thewhitetip reef shark, blue shark and the Hammerhead shark; that with the whale shark are the main attraction of the island.

Also the Coco's island is said to keep a treasure hidden on it, too many people have ventured searching for the treasure, but for the costarrican people the Island itself is the real treasure.
